Early Years Foundation Stage and Pippins Toddler Room

In Pippins we work within the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework more details are available in our Curriculum section of the web site.

Planning is centred on the children’s interests and abilities with a combination of adult led and child initiated activities. Pippins staff all undertake daily observations of children and use this information to inform their planning for individual children. Staff plan on a weekly basis to ensure children are developed on their present areas of interest this is further developed through the identification of their schema interests.

Schemas are patterns in children learning, children will have a dominate schema but will also develop skills through other schemas. In identifying children's schemas staff are able to tune into how individual children are learning and tailor activities to help your child /children gain the most from their time in the nursery. For more information on schemas [click here].

Table-top activities such as threading, inset boards, jigsaws, sorting and counting are available every day.

In contrast, the ‘wet play room’ offers painting, drawing and messy play.  The children move round the different rooms throughout the day, enjoying activities as a group, as well as having the opportunity to work together in small groups with children of their own age.

We can also play in the indoor/outdoor barn - a converted farm barn containing a variety of experiences such as a role play area and ample space to for ride on toys or in the outside play area with all the push and ride on toys balls.  The children also have the opportunity to use the Play Zone facilities in The Barn or walking in the 60 acres of countryside and woodland.

Children are actively encouraged to join in with the activities available each day.
