Acorns

Here at Birch Farm we have 3 sections that incorporates 4 different rooms. Each room is self contained but close enough that children can visit each other and take part in daily nursery life such as loading the washing machine.

To ensure children have access to activities that are appropriate for their stage of development all of our rooms operate an individual transitions policy. This means children  move on when our highly qualified staff in conjunction with yourselves as the main carer feel they are ready for the move.

Catkins is our baby room, children in this room are aged from 6 weeks until around 18 months. Catkins runs on a 3:1 ratio and has space for up to 12 children per day.

Pippins is our toddler room children who are walking steadily and are ready for a different experience have the opportunity to explore in three rooms a main play room dining room and wet play room. Pippins has space for up to 26 children and operates on a 1:3 ratio for the under 2`s and a 1 :4 ratio for the 2 - 3 year olds.

Acorns is our pre-school section. Acorns is separated into two rooms between 9am and 4pm - the groups are known as yellow and red group. Yellow group is predominantly for children aged 2½ -3½. The spacious room offers a variety of well equipped play areas designed to support learning. Red group offers more table-based activities for children whose concentration and interest levels are more targeted to these types of activities. Interests and stages of development will also help to determine your child’s group. This enables us to plan differentiated activities to ensure the best learning opportunities for your child.

Children are able to move to Acorns from 2 years 6 months. Ratios are 1:4 for the under3`s and 1:8 for 3-5 years. Acorns are able to provide a choice of either term time or full year care and we are able to take children receiving the Early Education Grant Funding in this room.
