How to Make a Dried Flower Wreath
Making a dried flower wreath is a fun and mindful activity, perfect for bringing a touch of nature into your home. Follow these simple steps to create your own beautiful, long-lasting wreath.
Step 1: Lay out your materials
Begin by organizing all your dried flower materials.
Sort the flowers and foliage into different varieties so you can easily mix them into bunches.
Step 2: Create small bunches
Select a mix of 5 to 7 stems per bunch.
Arrange the flowers in a way that pleases you, balancing colors and textures.
Once happy with your arrangement, tie the bunch with a piece of string but do not cut the stems yet.
Trim the ends of the string, but leave the stems long for now.
Note on size: Each bunch should be roughly the length of your palm. The tie point will sit on the wreath base, and the final size of your wreath will depend on how much the bunches extend beyond the tie point.
Step 3: Make 12-15 bunches
Continue creating bunches, aiming for 12 to 15 in total. This will ensure enough coverage for a full wreath.
Step 4: Attaching your bunches to your base
Tie your roll of string to the wreath base, securing it tightly as shown in the image below.
Step 5: Attach the first bunch
Position your first bunch on the wreath base, with the tie point sitting on the base.
Pull your roll of string taut and wrap it around the bunch a couple of times to secure it to the base.
Leave the roll of string intact—do not cut it—as you'll continue to wrap it around the remaining bunches.
Now, trim the stems so they don’t extend beyond the edge of the wreath base.
Step 6: Add the second bunch
Place the second bunch so that it slightly overlaps the first bunch, covering the tie point of the previous bunch.
Angle it so it sits comfortably on the base and nestles against the first bunch.
When satisfied with the position, pull the string taut and wrap the second bunch securely.
Trim the stems.
Step 7: Continue adding bunches
Keep adding bunches, positioning each to cover the tie point of the previous bunch and adjusting the angle to cover both the inside and outside edges of the wreath base.
Repeat the process of securing with string and trimming the stems as you go.
Step 8: Finish your wreath
Continue wrapping and securing bunches until you’ve used all your bunches, or until you’re happy with the fullness of the wreath.
Make sure the tie points are well covered and the arrangement looks balanced.
Now, you’ve completed your beautiful, handmade dried flower wreath! You can hang it on your wall or door, bringing a natural touch to your home that will last throughout the seasons.
