A guide to our 2024 Summer & Autumn flowers.

Updated: Mar 8

We grow our flowers with the seasons, so what is in flower and when, is very much dependent on the weather.

Our Summer flowers are generally a mix of perennials, annuals and bulbs.

We have several beds of perennial flowers which we add to each year, by dividing existing plants and sowing more seeds in Autumn. All our annuals are grown from seed, here at Birch Farm, they are sown in peat free compost during March and April. We keep them under cover and carefully prick out and pot them on until they are ready to be planted out after the last frosts, which is usually early to mid May.

Summer bulbs, like Gladiolus and Crocosmia are planted in Spring.

A Manchester mix of sunshine and showers means we should have beds full of flowers by June.
